Global Offshore Wind Leader Welcomes Largest Installation Vessel to Its Fleet

Cadeler, a prominent global player in offshore wind installation, has announced the arrival of its latest and most sophisticated installation vessel, Wind Peak.

Introduction of the Wind Peak

The Wind Peak, the first of seven new vessels Cadeler has under contract, was delivered at a ceremony held at the COSCO Shipping Heavy Industry shipyard in Qidong, China.

This advanced P-class jack-up vessel is specifically engineered to address the growing global demand for offshore wind energy by efficiently handling large wind turbine components.

Mikkel Gleerup, CEO of Cadeler, emphasized that the Wind Peak is the result of years of dedicated work to meet the evolving needs of their clients. He also commended the project for being delivered on time and within budget.

Ready for the Most Challenging Installations

The Wind Peak, alongside its sister vessel Wind Pace, currently in development, is designed to handle some of the most challenging offshore installation sites worldwide.

Technological Advancements and Environmental Benefits

Equipped with state-of-the-art technology, the vessels are capable of transporting and installing up to seven 15 MW turbines or five turbines exceeding 20 MW per load. This capacity significantly reduces installation times and carbon emissions, enhancing overall efficiency.

Advanced Features of the P-Class Vessels

Liang Yanfeng, Chairman of COSCO Shipping Heavy Industries, highlighted that the vessel's hybrid oil-electric power system and advanced design make it one of the most sophisticated offshore wind turbine installation vessels in the market.

The P-class vessels offer impressive features, including 5,600 m² of deck space, a payload capacity of over 17,600 tons, and a main crane capable of lifting more than 2,500 tons at a height of 53 meters. They can accommodate up to 130 crew members and technicians and are designed to use biofuels and an electrical system for energy conservation and reuse.

Collaborative Effort in Vessel Construction

The construction of the P-class vessels was made possible through collaboration with several key partners, including COSCO, GustoMSC NOV, Huisman, Kongsberg, and MAN Energy.

Future Plans for Cadeler’s Fleet

The sister ship of Wind Peak, named Wind Pace, is expected to be delivered in the second quarter of 2025. Both vessels will be registered in Denmark.
